X127 was one of approximately 200 lighters built for the Gallipoli campaign of 1915. Designed by Walter Pollock & Son of Faversham, Kent, the vessel served during the Dardanelles campaign and was later sent to Malta, where it was converted for transport duties.
During the night of 21 April 1942, in the Second World War, the vessel was struck and sank rapidly.
Over the years the wreck was known by several names, including Coralita, Coral and Carolita. For a long time it was also mistaken for the wreck of a British submarine before its identity was properly established.
